Taking Action and Creating Change

Guess what? There is no perfect time! That magical moment where everything in your life is exactly where you need it to be in order to start eating better and exercising... it doesn't exist!

Have you said things like:

' I'm swamped at work, I'll wait until things slow down'

' I have so many weddings to go to, I'll start after wedding season'

' I have so many trips planned, I'll wait until I get back'

'I'll wait until after x holiday'

' I've had such a bad start to my week, I'll wait until next week'

'Today is a bust, I'll start tomorrow'

What happens? You keep pushing it back further and further, and you never actually start.

This concept of perfectionism that surrounds nutrition and fitness sets us all up for failure. ' If I don't follow this diet exactly like I'm supposed to then what's the point'? The truth is that life is going to continue to throw you curve balls. There will always be holidays, birthdays, and stressful times in our lives. But you can learn new behaviors and habits that help support your goals even during those difficult times. You can stay on track with your nutrition and fitness during the holidays, but you have to be willing to build the skills that are necessary for you to be able to do that. Building those skills happens over time with consistency, discipline, and resilience.

Start NOW. Today. Your next meal. Just START!

Starting builds momentum. You eat a healthy meal and you feel GOOD about it, and you feel PROUD of yourself. You feel so good about yourself that you just might go out for a run right now because you feel so ALIVE! Then you have a healthy post-run smoothie, and you make a grocery list, and next thing you know all of your healthy choices are piling up and you are moving forward towards that goal of yours.

Forgot to back a lunch? Order the grilled chicken salad instead of the burger and fries. Feeling the mid-afternoon slump? Opt for a green tea instead of your usual Venti White Chocolate Mocha. Don't have time for a full 60 minute workout at the gym? Start with a 10 minute walk.

What's one simple thing you can do right now to help move you forward toward your goal? Find the smallest possible thing and DO IT. Stop waiting around for the perfect moment because it's never going to come. Take action, be bold, and give yourself permission to go after your goals and dreams.
